Michael Kenny Appointed WSU’s Director Of Police

Michael Kenny has been appointed interim director of public safety and chief of police at Washington State University. Kenny, who this year received a President’s Employee Excellence Award, joined the WSU police department in 1969 and became interim chief of police in 1992.

Shawn W. Soom, Spokane, received a master’s degree in science in administration from Central Michigan University.

Two juniors from Spokane attending the University of Montana in Missoula have been initiated into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society: Jason Anderson, a junior majoring in wildlife biology, is the son of Randall and Susan Anderson; and Jamie Berry, an elementary education junior, is the daughter of James and Mary Berry.

Andrea D. Crumpler, Mead, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology/ social service from Seattle Pacific University.

Michele L. Schindler, Mead, and Michelle L. Sanders, Spokane, have received master of education degrees from Western Washington University in Bellingham.

Teresa L. Fraser, Spokane, graduated last spring from the University of Northern Colorado.

Byron Gates, son of Gil and Joyce Gates, Spokane, received a $750 chemistry department tuition and fee waiver, and a $250 chemistry fund scholarship at Western Washington University, where he is a junior. The biochemistry major has a 3.8 grade point average.

Melode Hall, Spokane, was recognized for placing fourth in national sales for Creative Memories during its convention this summer in St. Cloud, Minn.

Christine McCoy, city clerk/ treasurer of Deer Park, has been accepted into the Academy for Advanced Education of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She is among 11 percent of the 10,000 members of the international group to qualify for the status.
