Two Seriously Injured In Grain Truck Crash

From Staff Reports

Two people were seriously injured Saturday afternoon when a unoccupied grain truck rolled down a hill and crashed into the combine they were working on in Whitman County.

Jesse Persons, 17, suffered head, neck and back injuries and was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center. Ed Schluneger, 64, was taken to Whitman Community Hospital with severe leg injuries. Both were listed in serious condition late Saturday.

The accident happened on Long Hollow Road, about 16 miles southwest of Colfax at 3 p.m.

Persons and Schluneger, both of Colfax, were working on a combine when the grain truck rolled down a hill while it was being loaded and slammed into the combine, said Whitman County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Lavey.

Both were pinned under the grain truck, Lavey said. , DataTimes
