Vh1 Gets With ‘70s

Associated Press

Seven days of ‘70s programming begins airing today on VH1. Go ahead. Snicker. If you must.

You’re probably thinking about that decade as a Dumpster of disco, a putrid period of polyester, platform shoes and bad hair days, weeks, months and years.

The cable network is presenting a mix of shows that include old Jackson 5 cartoons and Sonny and Cher comedy hours; such films as “The Rose,” “Mahogany” and “Saturday Night Fever”; 1970s editions of VH1’s programs like “Best of American Bandstand” and “8-Track Flashback,” and vintage music videos.

The centerpiece of the week - and worth watching, even if the rest amounts to recycled schlock - is a five-part documentary series about the ‘70s and ‘70s music, airing each weeknight at 5.
