Vietnamese Search For 600 Missing Fishermen

Compiled From Wire Services

Rescue teams searched the waters off north Vietnam for a fifth day Monday, hoping to find more than 600 fishermen who disappeared in a storm.

The fishermen and their boats vanished amid winds and heavy rains Wednesday. Only seven bodies have been found, according to a government spokesman in the Thanh Hoa province, about 80 miles south of Hanoi.

The storm caused flooding throughout northern Vietnam. A 165-foot portion of dike holding back the nearby Buoi River burst Friday after days of rain, flooding more than 7,900 acres of land.

Entire villages remained submerged Monday.
