Margaux Hemingway Deliberately Overdosed

New York Daily News

Actress-model Margaux Hemingway committed suicide by taking an overdose of sedatives, the county coroner’s office said Tuesday.

The 41-year-old granddaughter of the late Ernest Hemingway died from “acute phenobarbital intoxication,” said coroner’s spokesman Scott Carrier. “The levels were extremely high. The quantity was well above therapeutic levels.”

Hemingway’s body was discovered in her Santa Monica, Calif., apartment by friends July 1. The coroner estimated she had died late June 28 or early June 29.

“I’m shocked and depressed,” said Hemingway’s agent, Graham Kaye. “I didn’t think she would do it.”

Margaux is the fifth family member to commit suicide. Her grandfather used a shotgun to kill himself 35 years ago, and his brother, sister and father took their own lives.
