Cubs honor Dawson

Andre’s Army turned out in full force for the last time Wednesday at Wrigley Field, where retiring Marlins outfielder Andre Dawson was honored during a ceremony before an afternoon game against the Cubs.

Dawson ran slowly around the entire perimeter, waving to fans along the way. He stopped in front of the right-field Bleacher Bums and gave them a salaam bow like the ones he received playing for the Cubs from 1987 through 1992.

Clearing the bases

Giants outfielder Barry Bonds left Wednesday’s game with the New York Mets with a mild strain of his left hamstring and is questionable for tonight’s game. Bonds has played in a franchise-record 354 games, the longest current streak in the National League… . Center fielder Brett Butler, who underwent throat cancer surgery in May, will rejoin the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday in Montreal. … The Giants sold catcher Steve Decker to the Rockies, where he will be reunited with former Lewis-Clark State College batterymate Steve Reed.
