Fred Rostberg Spokane

Memorial service for Fred L. Rostberg, 76, is set for 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rostberg died Monday. He was born in Logan Center, N.D.

He retired as a supervisor for Northwest Airlines in 1982 after 36 years.

He had lived in Spokane for 41 years and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

He served as a pilot in World War II and served in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a major. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Rostberg; two daughters, Linda Rogel and Mary McCarty, both of Spokane; three sons, Michael Rostberg of Chattaroy, and John and James Rostberg, both of Spokane; two sisters and three brothers, all of North Dakota, and seven grandchildren.

Josephine Vietz Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Josephine Vietz, 70, at her request. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vietz, who died Sunday, was born in Brunswick, Ga.

She married Harold Vietz in 1944, and they traveled for several years.

Mrs. Vietz lived in Bonner County, near Newport, Wash., for 32 years. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1990.

She enjoyed photography, traveling, ceramics and bowling.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Harold; a son, Terry Vietz of Palouse, Wash.; a daughter, Cheri Kuprinko of Chehalis, Wash.; and three sisters, Edna McBee of Jacksonville, Fla., Juanita Wells of Brooker, Fla., and Lois Bootle of Ridgeland, S.C.

Elizabeth Little Boise

A memorial service for Elizabeth D. Little, 84, will begin at 10 a.m. today at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boise.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday and a funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m Saturday, with both services at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at Kellogg. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Little, who was born in Harrison, Idaho, died Tuesday at home.

She graduated from Harrison High School.

Mrs Little married Ewing Little in 1936 in Wallace. He preceded her in death.

She was a co-owner of the Twin City Hardware and Furniture. She also worked for several grocery stores in the Kellogg area.

Mrs. Little was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and St. Rita’s Catholic Church and helped start Kellogg Little League Baseball.

She is survived by three sons, Duane Little and Norman Little, both of Kellogg, and David Little of Pasco; a sister, Helen Biotti of Kellogg; a brother, George Sala of Spokane; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Anna Bell Hirschel Plummer, Idaho

Visitation for for Anna Bell Hirschel, 74, is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Plummer Congregational Church. Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer. Schanzenbach Funeral Home of Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hirschel, a lifetime Plummer resident, died Sunday.

She was a homemaker.

Two husbands preceded her in death: Fred Coe and Walt Hirschel.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Olson of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Wanda Fuchs of Plummer; a sister, Hazel Adams of Pinehurst, Idaho; a brother, Clarence McCartney of Tekoa, Wash.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ernest Faler Spokane

Memorial service for Ernest K. Faler, 82, was held Aug. 8 at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Faler died Aug. 5.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from West Valley High School.

He worked for Columbia Lighting for 35 years and retired in 1979.

Mr. Faler was a member of Eagles Lodge 2.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Faler; a son, Monty Faler of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Helen Baker of Mossyrock, Wash; four stepsons, Bruce King of Chattaroy, David King of Silverdale, Wash., Paul King of Spanaway, Wash., and Roger King of Colbert; two stepdaughters, Karen Spence of Bothell, Wash., and Maureen Grosz of Spokane; two brothers, Chester Faler of Oakville, Wash., and Lester Faler of Mount Vernon, Wash.; a sister, Delia Kling of Redwood City, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren.

Frederick Muret Spokane

Memorial service for Frederick Harold Muret, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Muret, a retired Army colonel, died Aug. 14. He was born in Winfield, Kan.

He graduated from Kansas State University.

He was in the Army for 30 years, serving in the Far East during World War II. He also served in the Vietnam War and in Europe.

His last assignment was as an adviser to the 161st National Guard in Spokane. He had lived in Spokane for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gertrude “Trudy” Muret; a daughter, Janice Lagler of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Evelyn Bayne of Agoura Hills, Calif., and four grandchildren.

Lee Randall Davenport, Wash. No service will be held for Lee W. Randall, 75, at his request. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Randall, who was born in Davenport, died Tuesday.

He graduated from high school in Davenport and worked for the federal government for 31 years.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Star Grange.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois Randall; three daughters, Cathy DeSautel of Inchelium, Wash., Lila Kruger of Glenwood, Wash., and Vicki Randall of Libby, Mont.; a sister, Lillie Ford of Buhl, Idaho, and four grandchildren.

Mary Lybecker Harrington, Wash.

Memorial services for Mary M. Lybecker, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harrington Community Congregational Church. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Daisy, Wash., Mrs. Lybecker died Saturday.

She was raised in the original Daisy area until Grand Coulee Dam was built and it flooded the town. She moved to Davenport when she was 10 and graduated from high school there.

She received a teaching certificate from Cheney Normal College and taught elementary school until 1971.

She married Harold Lybecker in 1938, and they farmed south of Rocklyn, Wash.

She was a member of the Harrington Community Congregational Church, the Eastern Star of Davenport, the Bluestem Grange, the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization.

Her husband died in 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Alan Lybecker of Seattle and Roger Lybecker of Harrington; and three granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Harrington Public Library.

Mary Fly Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Mary W. Fly, 92, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Fly, a lifetime Adams County resident, died Tuesday.

She was born near Othello, Wash.

Her family moved to a farm in Benge, Wash., when she was young.

In 1922, she married Allen Scott. They lived and farmed in Benge. He died in 1970.

In 1972, she married Homer Fly. They later moved to LaCrosse, Wash., and settled in Ritzville in 1984. He died in 1990.

She was a member of Benge Community Church, the Benge Grange and the Benge Ladies Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Lura Maier of Ritzville, Lois Murphy of San Diego and Barbara Rickenbach of Pasco; a sister, Bessie Kuhn of Spokane; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Milholland Spokane

Visitation for Margaret Milholland, 79, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with burial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Milholland, a 40-year Spokane resident, died Monday. She was born in Mott, N.D.

She was a seamstress and created custom clothing.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and a bowling league at Spokane Valley Bowl.

Her husband, Vernon, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Robert Milholland of Spokane; two daughters, Virginia Hunter of Spokane, and Mary Ward of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Eleanor Fisher of Helena and Alice Bequette of Weiser, Idaho; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Juanita Casey Spokane

Funeral Mass for Juanita L. Casey, 60, is set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. There will be private inurnment.

Mrs. Casey, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She tended bar at the Happy Time Tavern and Beryl Tavern and was a member of the pool league at the Happy Time Tavern.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Bob Casey; a son, Raymond Best of Coeur d’Alene; and a daughter, Lori Romo of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Helen Olson Spokane

Memorial service for Helen L. Olson, 90, is set for 10 a.m. Monday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash.

Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Mrs. Olson died Monday. She grew up in North Dakota, where she also taught school.

She was postmaster in Bluecreek, Wash., from 1945 until 1972. She and her husband, Olaf, also owned the Bluecreek Store during that time.

She retired in 1972, and they moved to Chewelah, in 1986.

Her husband died in 1993. Mrs. Olson had lived in Spokane since 1992.

She is survived by three sons, Darrell Olson of Spokane, Kenneth Olson of Bluecreek and Roger Olson of Arden, Wash.; two daughters, Marilyn Hastings of Spokane and Bernice Shivley of Diamond Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Harry Livingston of Montana and Hubert Livingston of California; a sister, Elmyrta Halferty of Oregon; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Conrad Weitz Jr. Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Conrad Weitz Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday at will be Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Weitz, 84, died Sunday.

He was born in Russia. His family immigrated to the United States when he was 6 weeks old, and they settled in Colfax.

Mr. Weitz graduated from Colfax High School and received a degree from Western States Chiropractic College in Oregon.

He practiced as a chiropractor and then returned to school and received a premed degree from Washington State College. He then received degrees in medicine and surgery from St. Louis University Medical School.

He served his residency at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane and began his practice in Colfax in 1941.

He retired in 1976.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and served on the Whitman County Hospital Board for many years.

He married Dorothy Repp in Colfax, in 1935. She died in 1988.

He is survived by three sons, Conrad Weitz III of Portland, Frederick Weitz of Edmonds, Wash., and Roben Weitz of Macon, Ga.; three sisters, Mary Storment of Oak Harbor, Wash., Helen Strickland of Ridgefield, Wash., and Connie Day of Long Beach, Wash.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or the Whitman Hospital Foundation.

Hazel Best Coeur d’Alene

Service for Hazel Marie Best, 88, will be 11 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Best died Sunday at the Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center. She was born in Tacoma.

She married Ronald Best in 1925 in Coeur d’Alene. He died in 1986.

She had cooked at several restaurants and enjoyed fishing, hunting, crocheting, sewing and reading.

Mrs. Best was a former member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 486.

She is survived by two sons; Ronald Best of Spokane and Floyd Best of Coeur d’Alene; one daughter, Lois Stanea of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Charles Kisler of Salem, Ore., and Roy Kisler of Belfair, Wash,; three sisters, Madge Honodel of Spokane, June Connelly of Grand Coulee, Wash., and Doris Schieber of Electric City, Wash.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Philip Lindstrom Silverton, Idaho

Service for Philip M. Lindstrom, 78, will begin 11 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Wallace. Shoshone Funeral Service of Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lindstrom, who died Monday, was born in Hoquiam, Wash.

He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.

For 18 years, before his retirement in 1982, Mr. Lindstrom was an investment manager for Hecla Mining Co. He had also worked as a miner, geologist, superintendent and mining engineer.

He was a 58-year member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical & Petroleum Engineers, and a chairman of the third annual Uranium Symposium and the American Mining Congress Silver Committee. He had been on the board of editorial advisers for the Silver & Gold Report and on the board of directors for Hecla Mining Co.

He was past president of the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He had received the Boy Scouts of America’s Silver Beaver Award and been a United Church of Christ trustee.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Isobel, at home; two sons, Mark Lindstrom of Mullan, Idaho, and Dean Lindstrom of Osburn, Idaho; two daughters, Rena Christensen of Eureka, Calif., and Sara Buckham of Hayden, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
