Clintons, Gores Will Hit The Road Again

Associated Press

In a bid to recapture the spirit of his 1992 bus tour, President Clinton plans a two-day trip through Missouri, southern Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee after the Democratic National Convention.

And like four years ago, he will be joined by his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper.

“I think it’s a little different this time,” campaign spokeswoman Ann Lewis said Thursday. In 1992, the idea was to introduce the couples to American and promote their personal chemistry.

Clinton’s political team hopes the tour carries convention momentum into Labor Day, the traditional opening of the Fall campaign.

The trip will begin Friday, Aug. 30, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. They will spend Friday night in Paducah, Ky., and end the journey Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.

Clinton plans to spend Sunday in his hometown of Little Rock, Ark., before making a Labor Day campaign trip, officials said. He plans to be back in Washington the Tuesday after Labor Day.
