Gwyneth Paltrow Makes ‘Emma’ Work

It may not be perfect Jane Austen. It may not be filmed particularly well. It may even feature at least one performance (Toni Collette) that is a tad too cartoonish. But Douglas McGrath’s luminous adaptation of Austen’s “Emma” works if for no other reason than Gwyneth Paltrow who inhabits the title character as no other actress of her tender age (23) could, on her best day, ever hope to. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
