Makinen Wins Auto Rally

World auto rally championship leader Tommi Makinen of Finland won the “1000 Lakes Rally,” increasing his lead in the drivers standings with only three events to go.

Four-time world champion Juha Kankunen, also a Finn, was runner-up in a Toyota, 46 seconds behind Makinen.
