Palmer Adds To Presidents Cup

Compiled From Wire Services

Arnold Palmer added David Duval and Kenny Perry to the U.S. Presidents Cup team, sticking with the top available players in the standings and once again leaving Lee Janzen out of a major team competition.

“I really thought it was fairer to go with the first 12 guys,” Palmer said. “I made the announcement early on that guys could play their way on the team, unless something unusually striking happened.”

Duval was 11th, 24,746 points behind No. 10 Justin Leonard in the system based on earnings over the last 20 months - with a double value for 1996. Perry was 12th and Janzen 13th.

Janzen, who tied for second last week in the Greater Vancouver Open, also was bypassed for the 1995 Ryder Cup when captain Lanny Wadkins selected Curtis Strange and Fred Couples.
