Oregon Fights Expansion Of Benefits To Gay Partners

Associated Press

The Oregon attorney general’s office said Friday it will appeal a judge’s order that insurance benefits be offered to the homosexual domestic partners of state employees.

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Stephen Gallagher ruled Aug. 8 in favor of three Oregon Health Sciences University employees who sued to obtain medical, dental and life insurance benefits for their longtime partners.

The attorney general’s office is appealing the ruling to the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Lawyers involved in the litigation said the ruling was the first of its kind in the nation.
