Fixing The Blackfoot
River restoration
Efforts to restore the Upper Blackfoot River in eastern Idaho received a boost in October with a $10,000 donation from the Monsanto Corp., bringing the total of private donations to $65,000.
Idaho Fish and Game made an initial investment of $700,000 to rehabilitate what was once one of the premier wild cutthroat fisheries.
The project includes diverting the river back to its original channel as well as a land-swap program designed to protect sensitive portions of the river from cattle grazing.
The second part of the project will focus on trading grazing land along the river banks for lush areas in the upper reaches of Caribou County, where cattle would have less impact on the river.
