Homemade Explosive Discovered On Carrier

Compiled From Wire Services

A small homemade bomb was found aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation early Saturday but it was defused before it could do any damage or injury.

Nearby crew members were evacuated after a security patrolman on his rounds found the device in a crew living area at about 1 a.m., said Lt. Charles Brown, a Navy spokesman.

An explosives team was called in and defused the bomb, which was “no larger than a Coke can,” and apparently made from explosives packed in an aerosol-style container, Brown said.

No arrests were immediately made, he said.
