Idaho Falls To Sw Missouri St. After Ice-Cold First-Half Finish

Danny Moore and Ben Kandlbinder combined for 25 points in the second half to lead Southwest Missouri State to an 87-71 victory over Idaho Saturday night in Springfield, Mo.

Moore, who finished with 27 points, scored 15 in the second half, while Kandlbinder added 10 of his 17 in the second half to push the Bears’ 11-point halftime lead to a 21-point cushion with about two minutes left.

Idaho cut the lead to 37-35 late in the first half, but SMS held Idaho scoreless in the last 3 minutes and scored nine unanswered points to take a 46-35 lead into the locker room.

The Vandals got no closer than eight points in the second half before a 17-7 SMS run midway through the half put Idaho away for good.

Coleco Buie added 15 for SMS and Kevin Ault scored 10. Idaho was led by Jason Jackman with 20, followed by Reggie Rose with 13 and Kris Baumann with 11.

Whitworth 89, Hawaii Pacific 79

The Pirates (3-1) rallied from a two-point halftime deficit with 54 second-half points to earn an upset victory over Hawaii Pacific (2-1) at the Brigham Young-Hawaii tournament.

The Pirates shot 61 percent for the game against Hawaii Pacific, a team ranked as high as second in the NAIA Division I poll.

Jeff Mix scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Whitworth. Teammate Gabe Jones finished with a game-high 26 points, including 5-for-9 shooting from 3-point range.

San Diego St. 80, EWU 55

Tye Fields scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as San Diego State (2-1) breezed past Eastern Washington (2-2) in San Diego.

Kevin Lewis scored 12 points to lead EWU.
