Suspect In Car Burglaries Arrested After Chase On Foot

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man suspected of burglarizing at least two cars on the North Side and shooting at a couple that tried to catch him was arrested Friday after a brief foot chase.

The driver of a red Toyota pickup matching the description of the getaway truck in the shooting ran when police stopped it early Friday at Elm and Augusta.

Police gave chase and found the suspect, Rory D. Brown, 33, hiding in a nearby home. Brown had three pieces of methamphetamine and more than $1,000 in cash when he was arrested, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Brown, who gave his address as 1813 W. Nora, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of a controlled substance and on several outstanding warrants. Jailers found another bag of methamphetamine hidden in Brown’s sock, Cottam said.

Brown matches the description of a man chased from the inside of a car by its owner at the North Division Cinemas on Thursday night. That man sped off in a red Toyota pickup.

The couple got the truck’s license plate number and tried to follow it, but quit when the driver fired one shot from a handgun at them, Cottam said. No one was injured.

The license plate number on the truck matched the one given by the couple, Cottam said.

Inside the pickup, police also found several purses, checks and other items they believe were stolen.
