UW Falls To Penn St. In Ot

Tiffany Longworth tied a career-best with six 3-pointers, with the last one putting Penn State (4-0) ahead for good as the No. 15 Nittany Lions edged Washington 85-82 in overtime Saturday at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.

Longworth finished with a career-high 24 points.

Jamie Redd had 23 points while Gena Pelz scored 15 and Elise Niemela 12 for Washington (0-2).

Penn State outshot Washington 47.5 percent to 37.5 percent, but the Huskies stayed closed by outrebounding the Nittany Lions 30-12 on the offensive boards.

L-C State 52, Whitworth 47

The Pirates couldn’t overcome a cold-shooting first half and fell to the Warriors in the championship game of the Lewis-Clark State tournament in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Pirates shot 28 percent in the first half, connecting on just 9 of 32 shots, but still trailed just 26-23.

Whitworth warmed up in the second half, shooting 45 percent, managing to get off just 22 shots. The Pirates also turned the ball over 31 times in the game.

Whitworth’s Rebecca Moore scored 16 points to lead all scorers. Teammate Sherri Northington grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

CCS 57, Clark 46

Community Colleges of Spokane held Clark to just 18 first-half points en route to a victory in the Cougar Invitational tournament at Clackamas Community College in Portland.

Shelley Massingale scored a game-high 19 for the Sasquatch, while Heather Brandt added 13.

CCS takes on Clackamas in the championship game today at 2 p.m.

Idaho 83, Loyola-Chicago 61

The Vandals knocked off Loyola of Chicago to finish third at the St. Mary’s tournament in Moraga, Calif.

Michelle Greenwood, who played at North Central High, made 11 of 15 free throws and finished with a team-high 19 points for the Vandals (3-1). Kelli Johnson contributed 16 points and three steals.

The Vandals shot just 39 percent (26 of 67) for the game, but they were 7 of 19 from 3-point range. Idaho had a 51-40 advantage on the boards.

North Idaho 78, Columbia Basin 69

Mandy Jacques tossed in a game-high 27 points before fouling out and Shawna Rainer scored 20 and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a win over the Hawks at the Crossover Tournament in Pasco.
