Elderly Evacuated In High-Rise Fire

Fire raced through a high-rise building housing mostly elderly people, killing one person Sunday and sending 32 others to the hospital.

Firefighters had trouble evacuating Royal Tower, a 10-story building downtown, because many of its 193 residents have medical problems and were unable to use stairwells, acting Fire Chief Rick Brisbin said. Some were carried down ladders.
