His Left Foot Didn’t Know What The Right Was Doing

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Daniel Day-Lewis may have made Rebecca Miller a happy woman when they wed earlier this month, but he left two others hopping mad.

One was his live-in girlfriend, New York fitness trainer Deya Pichardo, whom Lewis had told only that he was going on a trip to take care of “some business.” Said Pichardo: “I’m still in shock! He never told me anything was wrong between us or there was anyone else … I loved him. I thought he loved me.”

The other was French actress Isabelle Adjani, the mother of his 18-month-old son, Gabriel. According to USA Today, she got a FedEx note from Day-Lewis on his wedding day saying he was getting hitched, but not to whom - so she innocently called Pichardo to congratulate her.

Loose talk

Dave Barry, on his book deal for a first novel in 1999: “I hope to join the long list of literary figures such as (Leo) Tolstoy and Jane Austen who have made the transition from wacky humor columnist to novelist.”

So when is she going to take a stab at marriage?

Monica Seles turns 23 today.

Guess they stand behind their employees

Speaking of fun couples, Andria Surles, a former farmhand for country star Wynonna (Judd) and her husband, Arch Kelley, claims Judd told her she had “a cute butt” and invited her to massage hers (Judd’s, that is), while Kelley bragged he was “physically well-endowed” and tried to measure her buttocks with a tape measure. Surles is seeking $800,000 in a claim for sexual harassment and discrimination.

So Daniel didn’t have to agonize at all

And speaking of Daniel Day-Lewis, his co-star in “The Crucible,” Winona Ryder, tells Newsweek it was “agonizing” waiting to learn if she would get the part: “In my head I was going, ‘What if (playwright/screenwriter) Arthur Miller goes to the video store and the only thing they have to rent of mine is some terrible movie and he just says no?”’ (Miller, by the way, is Rebecca Miller’s father).

Just another one of his wacky capers

After playing a bloodsucker in “Interview with the Vampire” and a brat in “Little Women,” what’s next for 14-year-old Kirsten Dunst? “I’m a young hooker now,” she says in People magazine of her six-episode guest shot in “ER” as a teenage prostitute befriended by George Clooney, whom she calls “double funny, like a kid … He’s always making jokes. And you know, now he’s Batman, too.”

Great Danes, however, prefer ‘Hamlet’

Finally, a shaggy dog story about Glenn Close, who plays Cruella De Vil in the new, live-action “101 Dalmatians”: When she was appearing in a student production of “The Miser” at the College of William and Mary in the early 1970s, her small, white dog, Penny, escaped from her dressing room and bounded onstage just as Close was delivering the line: “The devil sees you and takes you to hell, you beggardly dog!”
