Koss Hot, Leads Griz Past Zags

From Staff And Wire Reports

College women

Eliminate Greta Koss’ line from the box score and you have a tight ballgame. In fact, you have a Gonzaga University win.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they couldn’t eliminate Koss, and Montana’s 6-foot junior forward sparked the Grizzlies to an 81-66 women’s basketball victory Monday night in Missoula.

Koss scored the game’s first seven points and 10 of the Grizzlies’ first 17 as they jumped to a 17-7 lead. She hit 7 of 10 shots from the field in a 22-point game that led all scoring. Lydia Ledgerwood and Melissa McCullough scored 12 each to pace GU (1-4) and Kristin Deal added 11.

GU, down by 15 at one point in the first half, scrapped back to within three in the final 90 seconds of the half, but could get no closer. The Zags shot just 33 percent the second half to Montana’s 52 percent as the Griz went up by as many as 24 points.
