Peter Bronfman, who co-owned the Montreal Canadiens from 1971-78, died Sunday in Toronto after a brief battle with cancer. He was 68. . . . Cuban fencing champion Roberto Figueredo defected to the U.S. after taking part in a tournament in Puerto Rico. Figueredo, 20, sought political asylum from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service after participating in the Panamerican Fencing Championships, held in November in the U.S. commonwealth.
