Talking About Horror, We Should Spell It Lance
These days, Lance Henriksen is starring on the program “Millennium.” Once, he couldn’t even spell it.
We’re not kidding. Henriksen, best known for his roles in such movies as “Aliens,” “Near Dark” and “Hard Target,” dropped out of school in the eighth grade. When he left, he could barely read.
He snared his first acting job at age 29 by memorizing lines from the Eugene O’Neill play “Sea Plays” that a friend had read into a tape recorder.
“It was rough,” says Henriksen, 56. “I could make out words, but there was no way I could put a sentence together.” He finally taught himself to read by poring over scripts in acting school.

I love your mouth!’ I love that she says things and she doesn’t censor herself. I said to her, ‘A free thinker is a dangerous person in this society.”’

Actress Blair Brown has fond memories of Theodor Geisel, the author better known as Dr. Seuss. “We were at a benefit for the old Globe Theater in San Diego,” Brown said. “And when I was told he was there, I went running to his table, reciting something called ‘Butter Side Up and Butter Side Down.’ He looked at me as if I were totally insane and then he understood that I was a Seuss groupie.”
It’d be understandable if he had a glimmer of talent
It’s not so surprising that Mel Gibson has supplanted John Wayne as America’s favorite movie star. What’s more shocking is that, according to this annual Harris poll, Steven Seagal came in third, edging out Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise. At no. 14, Demi Moore was the top woman star.
