Cracked Rib, Dislocated Shoulder Can’t Stop Blades

Tacoma News Tribune

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Brian Blades played Sunday with a courage that deserved a better outcome. He has a cracked rib and a dislocated shoulder. Most players would be on the sidelines.

Blades talked the coaches into letting him play and he grabbed two passes for 23 yards. In the third quarter, though, he was decked by a hard hit by strong safety Tyrone Braxton. The ball came out of his hands, but Blades stayed in the game.

Afterward, his ribs ached more than ever.

“I’m feeling it now,” a wincing Blades said. “I’m just trying to do things to help this team win. That’s just me. You can count on me going out and playing with pain.

“I’m going to do that until I can’t take the pain anymore.”

Adams defends himself

Defensive tackle Sam Adams, who didn’t like his 15-yard penalty for hitting quarterback John Elway with his helmet, also might be fined. If so, Adams will appeal.

“I have a dislocated shoulder. How else am I going to hit him?” Adams said.

“They made a bad call in my opinion,” Adams protested. “They said it was because I hit him with my helmet and that’s bull.”

When Elway hit the turf, he immediately shouted to an official and pointed at Adams. The flag then flew.

“Elway was whining about it,” Adams said. “He always whines when he gets blasted.”
