Czech President Ok After Surgery
President Vaclav Havel read books, watched TV and made telephone calls Wednesday in the intensive care unit of a hospital where he is recovering from surgery to remove a tumor and half a lung.
Havel’s spokesman, Ladislav Spacek, denied TV reports of complications following the surgery.
TV Nova reported Tuesday that doctors had to siphon phlegm from Havel’s lungs to prevent breathing complications. Spacek said it was a “routine” procedure.
