Oregon Denied Copper Bowl

Compiled From Wire Services

Wisconsin has accepted an invitation to play in the Copper Bowl Dec. 27 at Tucson, leaving the University of Oregon on the sidelines.

Wisconsin ended the season with a 7-5 record, 3-5 in the Big Ten, after beating Hawaii 59-10 on the road last Saturday night. The Ducks finished 6-5, winning their last three games.

The Badgers’ opponent in the Copper Bowl will be the second-place team in the Western Athletic Conference - Utah or Brigham Young.

Marc Primanti, who was perfect on all of his field goal tries and extra points this season for North Carolina State, won the Lou Groza Award as college football’s top kicker.

Alabama defensive coordinator Mike Dubose is reported to be the front-runner for the school’s football coaching job. The Mobile Register, quoting a source it described as close to the athletic department, said Dubose is expected to be introduced Monday as the successor to Gene Stallings.
