Old Dominion Knocks Off Huskies

Odell Hodge scored 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked three shots, taking charge of the game in the second half as Old Dominion beat Washington 67-57 in Norfolk, Va., Thursday.

Old Dominion (5-0) trailed 40-39 with 13:08 left when Hodge sparked a 12-0 run with a layup and a jumper. Hodge would hit another layup and another baseline jumper during the run.

Washington (3-1) never challenged the remainder of the game.

Cal Bowdler had 13 points for Old Dominion, while Mark Poag added 12, hitting 3 of 6 from 3-point range.

Mark Sanford led the Huskies with 17 points.

Washington led the entire first half, going into halftime ahead 32-27. Early in the second half, the Monarchs hit two 3-pointers to cut into the lead, the last by Bowdler to give Old Dominion its first lead of the game, 39-38, with 13:37 remaining.

Reggie Bassette helped Hodge inside with eight rebounds, three blocks and four points.

The Huskies shot only 34.6 percent (18 of 52) from the field and were 3 of 19 (15.8 percent) on 3-pointers.

Idaho 74, Idaho St. 72

Kris Baumann scored 21 points including the winning free throws with 2 seconds left to lead the Vandals to a victory over the Bengals in Pocatello, Idaho.

Idaho (2-2), trailing 50-44 with 14:04 left, went on a 14-8 run to tie it at 58 with 8:51 to play. Eddie Turner, who finished with 20 points, scored the final two baskets for Idaho in the run.

After a timeout, Idaho went ahead 60-58 on a layup by Baumann at 8:09 and never trailed again.

ISU (2-3) tied it at 72 on two foul shots by Nate Green with 36 seconds left.

Dave Hickman fouled Baumann with 2 seconds left and Baumann hit both free throws for the final points.

ISU led Idaho the entire first half and the Bengals were ahead 35-30 at intermission.

Green led ISU with 18 points, Rapheal Fondren added 11 and Hickman 10. Jason Jackman had 10 points for Idaho.

The game was played at an ISU practice gym because Holt Arena’s roof began leaking Thursday morning following a snowstorm.

UI’s Reggie Rose and Marcus Wallace, both of whom pleaded guilty last week to disturbing the peace, will face disciplinary action, but it will not be revealed publicly, coach Kermit Davis said.

“It’s all going to be internal,” Davis said. “They’ll be disciplined within the team.”
