The survey evaluates compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as appropriateness and quality of care provide by staff.

Marine Lance Cpl. Todd Flaim, son of Alan and Nancy Flaim of Nine Mile Falls, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Fleet Marine Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. His promotion was based on superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Flaim is a 1993 graduate of Lakeside High School.

Linda Mae (Wiggins) Tracy, senior chief telecommunications specialist with the Coast Guard, recently retired after more than 21 years of service.

Tracy was the first woman enlistee to achieve the rank of senior chief petty officer in the telecommunication specialist rating.

Tracy, daughter of Geraldine Wiggins, Spokane, will continue to work for the Coast Guard as a civilian.

Mae Schaeffer, a novice Spokane poet, won first place in a writing contest sponsored by International Training and Communication (formerly Toastmistresses). The awards were presented at the group’s annual meeting in Glascow, Scotland.

The winning poem is titled “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.” Schaefer began writing poetry in 1994.
