Escaped Murderer Added To Fbi List

The FBI added to its 10 most-wanted fugitives list Saturday a murderer and cocaine dealer who escaped from prisons in Mexico and California.

Glen Stewart Godwin, 38, a Miami native, escaped in June 1987 through the main storm drain at California’s Folsom State Prison to the American River and a waiting raft, the FBI said.

He had been convicted of murder in March 1981 and sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars.

In November 1987, Godwin was arrested in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and sentenced to 7-1/2 years for dealing cocaine.

On Sept. 26, 1991, he escaped from Mexico’s Jalisco State Penitentiary shortly before he was to be turned over to U.S. authorities.

A federal warrant charges him with flight to avoid confinement.

Godwin is known to have traveled extensively through Mexico and Central America and may have been in Hawaii in 1992, the FBI said.

Six feet tall, he weighs 170 pounds and has black hair and green eyes. He has worked as a mechanic and construction worker and has run his own tool supply business.
