Police Arrest Teen After Bank Defaced

From Staff Reports

After a short chase, a 16-year-old boy was arrested early Saturday on charges of breaking into a North Side bank and vandalizing it.

Police said the boy broke into the Farmers and Merchants Bank, 6622 N. Division, and set off the burglar alarm about 4 a.m. When he saw police cars pulling into the bank parking lot, he jumped out of a broken window and ran, police said.

Officers chased the boy to a nearby apartment building and found him hiding in a closet. He was treated for minor cuts at an area hospital and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for second-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief.

Nearly every window in the bank was broken, and a candy machine was forced open, police said.
