Rapper Arrested On Marijuana Charge

Compiled From Wire Services

Rapper Flavor Flav spent a night in jail after police stopped him for riding his bicycle against traffic and allegedly found a 2-pound bag of marijuana tucked in his jacket.

The longtime member of the group Public Enemy was arrested and charged with drug possession. He was released Saturday after pleading innocent, said Steven Reed, a spokesman for the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

The 37-year-old rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, was arrested just after midnight outside his Bronx apartment house.

Officers spotted him riding a bicycle while adjusting something under his jacket, then found a bag of pot and drug paraphernalia, said police spokesman Sgt. Cory Cuneo.

A court appearance on the charge was scheduled for Jan. 15.

In October, the rapper, whose arrest record dates to 1991, bragged that he was back “on the right track” after a judge dropped gun and drug possession charges, ruling that a police search was illegal.

Last year, Drayton served three months in prison in a case involving a shot fired at a neighbor. The neighbor was unhurt.
