Thu., Dec. 12, 1996

An 81-year-old man was in critical condition late Wednesday after being injured in a two-car accident south of Spokane, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Martin Olson of Tekoa, Wash., suffered severe head injuries when the pickup truck he was riding in collided with a mini-van about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 195 near Spangle.

Olson, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was taken to Deaconess Medical Center.

Driver Henry Doeleman, 81, of Tekoa, suffered injured ribs, the WSP said.

Doeleman’s pickup was entering the southbound lane of the highway from Cheney-Spangle Road when he struck a Dodge Caravan driven by Tara Pool, 24, of Oakesdale, the WSP said.

Pool was treated and released for minor facial injuries. Her 17-month-old son, who was a passenger in the van, wasn’t injured.
