Robbers Hold Up Grocery Stores

Armed robbers held up two Spokane grocery stores Tuesday. No one was hurt in either heist, and the bandits are still on the loose.

The first robbery occurred about 9 a.m. at the Nevada Food Store, 5438 N. Nevada.

A woman in her 20s walked into the store with a pistol in her hand, ordered the owner to the back and stole some money.

Witnesses said she is possibly Hispanic, about 5-feet-2 inches tall and 110 pounds. She was wearing a red ski jacket and blue jeans.

Police also are searching for a white woman who may be an accomplice. The woman, in her late 20s, was described by witnesses as “fat and blonde.” She was wearing gray sweats and long hair in a ponytail.

She was seen in the store just before it was robbed.

The second holdup occurred about 8:20 p.m. at Excell Foods, 2104 E. Francis.

A man dressed all in black walked in and pulled out a gun, police said. He grabbed money from two cash registers and left through the front door.

Witnesses said he is white, in his mid-50s, about 5-feet-8 inches tall, with gray hair and a black and gray mustache. He was wearing wire rim glasses and a black cap.
