White House Counsel Quinn Resigns Post

White House counsel Jack Quinn resigned Wednesday, the Clinton administration said.

His resignation creates another important vacancy for the administration to fill.

A White House official said Quinn is leaving for personal reasons.

Before joining the White House, as chief of staff for Vice President Al Gore, Quinn had been a partner at Arnold & Porter, one of Washington’s leading law firms.

When he was named White House counsel last year, replacing Abner Mikva, Quinn became the fourth person to hold that job in the administration’s four years.

Quinn also was the general counsel for Gary Hart’s unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984.
