Josh Sweet poured in 31 points as West Valley pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Central Valley 67-59 Friday night, the first basketball game between the two Valley schools in 10 years.

CV (1-2) jumped to a quick lead, but the Eagles (2-1) took a 31-29 advantage at the half.

West Valley trailed 44-42 entering the fourth quarter, but had started a 14-3 run that gave it the lead for good. Sweet hit 5 or 6 free throws down the stretch and scored 15 points in the fourth quarter. Aaron Mortensen had 11 rebounds for WV.

Marc Hinkley had 16 points and Ryan Smith 15 for CV. Ben Platt had eight rebounds.

Brett Kaiser scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Panthers (2-2) past the visiting Braves (1-1).

Mead led most of the way before Scott Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to put the Braves up 41-40. J.J. Klaus answered with a 3 for Mead and the Panthers never trailed again. John Lindow followed with a 3 for Mead and Allen Inderrieden and Jason Galles sealed it with free throws down the stretch.

Scott Salisbury scored 23 points and Andrew Coleman had six of his 12 in overtime as the Bombers opened their season with a road win over the Highlanders (2-2).

The Highlanders had the ball for the last shot in regulation, but Richland made a block with 1 second left.

Nate Dunham had 22 points for Shadle. Richland held Chris Anderson, who was averaging 24 points, to six.

The Saxons (2-0) made just enough free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the visiting Blackhawks (2-1).

Ferris went 0 for 10 from the field in the fourth quarter, but had a 36-20 edge in rebounding to hold off Cheney.

Tucker Urdahl led Cheney with 14 points and August Parker had 7 of his 13 in the final period.

Jeremy Lucke led Ferris with 12 points and Jason Weatherred had nine rebounds.

Chris Allen led NC with 15 points, Chris Blotsky added 14 with eight rebounds and six assists and Sean Allberry had 14.

Ryan Monroe scored 23 points for Riverside, which hit just 20 of 50 shots to NC’s 29 of 53.
