Navy May Cut 900 Civilian Jobs

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Navy is considering cutting 900 civilian jobs at Western Washington bases.

Cmdr. Nettie Johnson said the Navy needs to trim its operating budget. More than 300 jobs could be eliminated by early retirements and other incentives, but there could be nearly 600 layoffs.

More than 400 of the job cuts are being considered at the Keyport Undersea Warfare Center, about 200 at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, about 100 at the Trident base in Bangor, about 60 at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station at Oak Harbor and about 40 at the Everett Naval Station.
