Avalanche Kills Three Heli-Skiers

Associated Press

An avalanche swept down on a glacier where a group of Germans were heli-skiing Monday afternoon, killing three people.

Five of the 11 Germans in the group were caught in the avalanche’s path, said Jason Roe, manager of Tyax Heli-Skiing of Whistler.

The group was skiing on the Spearhead Range just outside the Blackcomb ski area at Whistler, about 50 miles north of Vancouver.

About seven people are killed each year in Canada by avalanches. Most are heli-skiers.
