Girl, 3, Thirsty But Safe After Six Days In Jungle

A 3-year-old girl survived six days lost in the jungle of northeastern Argentina, but needs treatment for infected insect bites and scratches on her arms and legs.

Romina Andrea Vilarte was naked and dehydrated when found Friday by police about two miles from her parents’ home in Campo Viera. She was taken to a hospital, where she was recovering Monday.

Police said the girl was frightened when they approached her, but quickly warmed to them, repeatedly asking for cookies.

Authorities said the girl had wandered from home; they don’t know what happened to her clothing.

Romina told her family she ate wild fruit, nuts and tree roots in the jungle, where it rained heavily for three of the days she was lost.
