A Grinch who stole an electric teddy bear had a change of heart.
As a result, Diana Nelson once again has her 3-foot glowing ornament - the bear in a Santa’s hat that belongs to her ailing mother.
Someone swiped the bruin ornament from Nelson’s front yard on Wednesday.
Nelson then went public, stepping up to the Open Mike, a News Tribune feature for reader comments, to hurl a few words of contempt at any soul so low as to steal an old lady’s teddy bear.
“My mother is old and fragile, and she really liked that teddy bear,” Nelson said. “It sure is a shame that people have to steal ornaments out of people’s yards. It ruins Christmas for everyone.”
Roxy Giddings was out in the China Lake woods Saturday for the annual Christmas bird count when she happened across the missing bear.
She dropped off the bear at the newspaper’s front desk. Nelson picked him up on Saturday night.
“I’m really happy,” Nelson said.
