Late Rally Lifts Cougars Over Broncos Wilder’s Late Free Throws Propel WSU To Fifth Win

Laura Wilder’s free throw shooting was deadly when her team needed the points Sunday as the Washington State Cougars battled back from a 10-point second half deficit to edge host Boise State 79-78 in overtime at the Coca Cola Holiday tournament in the BSU Pavilion.

No. 22 Clemson captured the tournament title with a 52-50 win over No. 26 Florida.

Wilder, who led WSU with 15 points, dropped home a pair of free throws with 1:10 in regulation time to earn the Cougars a 72-72 tie. In overtime she tied the score at 78-78 with 39 seconds to play, then hit one of two free throws 7 seconds later for WSU’s one-point margin. The win boosted WSU to 5-2, while Boise State (0-9) remained winless.

The Cougars, who held a 53-44 advantage on the backboards, got scoring help from Amy Saneholtz, who added 14 points. Jade Hyett, who chipped in 12 points, also had six assists and seven steals. Saneholtz, who was named to the all-tourney team, led all rebounders with 11.
