Aviation Officials Want To Muzzle Fun

Gunfire at wedding celebrations has forced airplanes in Kuwait to change course to avoid being hit, and civil aviation officials are asking the government to outlaw the custom.

The head of the civil aviation authority said that an unidentified American carrier and a Kuwait Airways flight had to change course Oct. 24 to avoid gunfire from a wedding party south of the airport, the Al-Watan newspaper reported Monday.

Shooting into the air is a traditional expression of joy by Bedouin men at the celebrations, which usually are held in tents.
