Girl Loses Control Of Vehicle, Fractures Neck In 3-Car Wreck

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane teenager fractured her neck in a three-car wreck Monday, Washington state troopers reported.

The collision occurred about 3:35 p.m. on state Highway 290 near Flora Road.

Hae-Rim Townes, 16, was driving her 1991 Mercury Topaz east on 290 when she lost control on the slick pavement and slid into the westbound lanes.

The Topaz collided head-on with a Chevrolet Celebrity driven by Dani Guttierrez, 39, of Newman Lake.

The Celebrity then slid into a Buick Sentry driven by Daniel Carroll, 51, of Otis Orchards.

Townes also fractured her leg in the crash, as did Guttierrez. Both were taken to Deaconess Medical Center. Townes was listed in serious condition and Guttierrez was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday night.

Carroll had a sore neck but didn’t go to the hospital.

All three were wearing their seat belts.
