Flu Bug Derails Ccs At Desert Tournament

A flu bug did in the Community Colleges of Spokane women at the College of the Desert Holiday Basketball Tournament at Palm Desert, Calif.

Missing starting guard Tauni Marchand and a pair of reserves because of the flu, the Sasquatch were beaten 56-52 by Merritt of Oakland, Calif.

Freshman Alana Carlander scored a game-high 22 points to keep short-handed CCS in the game. Kelli Pilkington added 12 points.

Violet Pritchard and Ebony Williams each scored 12 to lead Merritt. Williams also grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.

The Sasquatch play Contra Costa today at 9 a.m. and wrap up the tournament on Sunday against tourney host College of the Desert.

Husky Classic

Washington’s first-round game against Northern Arizona in the Husky Classic women’s tournament Friday was cancelled because poor travel conditions prevented the visitors from reaching Seattle. The second game was played with Pacific defeating Princeton 65-51 for its first win. , DataTimes
