Poor Free-Throw Shooting Dooms Ccs Men

The Community Colleges of Spokane men shot less than 50 percent from the free-throw line and dropped an 82-69 basketball decision at Glendale Community College in Arizona.

The Sasquatch made just 12 of 25 foul shots. Glendale sank 20 of 31.

Jason Smith led CCS with 14 points. Teammates Randy Moffatt and Kasey Ahrens scored 13 and 12, respectively.

CCS plays at Scottsdale, Ariz., today.

Merritt 56, CCS 52

A flu bug did in the Community Colleges of Spokane women at the College of the Desert Holiday Basketball Tournament at Palm Desert, Calif.

Missing starting guard Tauni Marchand and a pair of reserves because of the flu, the Sasquatch were beaten 56-52 by Merritt of Oakland, Calif.

Freshman Alana Carlander scored a game-high 22 points to keep short-handed CCS in the game. Kelli Pilkington added 12 points.

The Sasquatch play Contra Costa today at 9 a.m. and College of the Desert on Sunday.

Husky Classic

Washington’s first-round game against Northern Arizona in the Husky Classic women’s tournament Friday was cancelled because poor travel conditions prevented the visitors from arriving.

In the other game, Pacific beat Princeton 65-51 for its first win.
