Soldier Ski Area Sold To New Owner

From Staff And Wire Reports

A new owner is taking over Soldier Mountain Ski Area in Camas County north of Fairfield, the Forest Service reports.

The special-use permit from the Sawtooth National Forest has been issued to Soldier Mountain Enterprises of Hailey.

It bought the facility from SNOW Inc. The new owners can operate for the remainder of the existing permit, which expires Dec. 31, 2008, said Joe Miczulski of the Sawtooth National Forest.

“There are no major changes in the way the permit will be administered with the new management,” he said.

Improvements are being made, such as expansion of trails, a temporary snowboard park, upgrades of the parking area and water and sewer systems.

The permit does not include guided backcountry snowcat skiing included in a separate special use permit issued to SNOW in January. But the new operator has applied for one. The public will be able to comment on cat skiing.
