Cheney Adds U-Hi To Its List

Now that they’ve dispatched Greater Spokane League teams, the Cheney Blackhawks can concentrate on the upcoming Frontier League season.

August Parker and Paul Malisani, with eight rebounds apiece, led a 34-12 advantage Saturday as Cheney (5-3) beat visiting University (3-3) of the GSL 60-39.

Pat Stiffler ran the show at point guard and had five assists for Cheney, which owns four wins over GSL teams. Cheney had eight of its 13 steals in the first half.

Austin Gerrells had 11 rebounds and Jade Cardwell added eight assists to guide the host Eagles (4-2) over the Trojans (4-3) in the title game.

PF’s Brason Alexander made six 3-pointers and scored 33, but much of the damage came with WV well in control.

The host Timberwolves (4-4) made 10 of 23 3-pointers and used an 11-2 run in the final 4 minutes of the first half to beat the Indians (3-4).

Colville missed 23 of 31 second-half field goals and 24 of 33 3-point attempts for the game.

LC junior wing Gabe Hern scored 29 and made 6 of 10 3-pointers. LC’s Chad Cheeley hit his first six shots and scored 11 first-half points.

The other half of the holiday tournament will be completed Monday and Tuesday when Orofino’s boys and girls visit LC and Coeur d’Alene.

Katie Hatrock and Lindsay Herbert combined for 37 points and 10 assists to guide the Timberwolves (9-1) to a victory over Colville (2-5) at the Coeur d’Alene/Lake City Classic.

Bad roads prevented Orofino from joining LC, Colville and CdA during the weekend, but the Maniacs hope to make up the games early next week. Colville beat CdA Friday while LC rested.

The Timberwolves’ Alison Asher added 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Kiesha Sowers scored 10 of her 20 in the fourth quarter, when the host Eagles (5-2) installed a press to beat the Trojans (5-4) after trailing by seven with 6 minutes left.

Sowers added seven rebounds and Dawn Salfer five steals for WV. Katelynn Brown scored 13 for the Trojans, who had 29 turnovers.

Anna Getz scored 33, with four 3-pointers and 10-of-13 shooting from inside the line, to guide the Blackhawks (8-0) over the visiting Cardinals (0-7).

Getz, who added seven steals, scored 23 in the first half. Kara Weitman added eight assists and Tiffany Van Matre six rebounds for Cheney, which forced 25 turnovers.
