Obituaries

Albert Van Grimbergen Deer Park.

No service for Albert J. Van Grimbergen, 75, will be held at his request. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Van Grimbergen died Wednesday.

He served in the Army during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He later worked for the Gonzaga University ROTC program for four years and for the Bonneville Power Administration. Mr. Van Grimbergen was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 6268 in Wilbur, Wash.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia; five sons, Jack Van Grimbergen of Tooele, Utah, Tom and Tim Van Grimbergen, both of Spokane, Chuck Van Grimbergen of Priest River, Idaho, and Michael Van Grimbergen of Santa Fe, N.M.; a daughter, Mary Ann of Priest River; a stepson, Clint Williams of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Joseph Van Grimbergen of Chicago; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Raymond Bennett Spokane

Service for Raymond L. Bennett, 94, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pines Mausoleum. Burial will follow at the Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Warden, Wash., Mr. Bennett died Tuesday.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum-Trentwood as a machine operator in the box shop before retiring. He helped build the Kaiser Trentwood building when the plant operator was Alcoa.

He farmed 40 acres at his home in Otis Orchards.

His wife, Valeria, preceded him in death in 1987.

He is survived by a stepson, D.W. Owen of Otis Orchards; and a brother, Victor Bennett of Greenacres.

Ruth Rogers Danville, Calif.

Service for Ruth Vrona Rogers, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel at Riverside Memorial Park. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rogers, a 68-year resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Mission Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Sumner, died in 1969.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Crowe of Danville, Calif.; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Philip Martin Spokane

Recitation of the rosary for Philip T. Martin, 80, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Loon Lake (Wash.) Cemetery at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Martin, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday. He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and a World War II Army Signal Corps veteran.

He later worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years before retiring in 1978.

Mr. Martin was a member of the St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Lion International and Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margwen; and two brothers, Walt and Richard Martin both of Spokane.

John Pehling Wenatchee

Service for John Oscar Pehling, 87, was held Saturday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, Idaho.

Mr. Pehling, who was born in Lemore County, N.D., died Sunday.

He worked as a mill worker in lumber mills throughout his life. He lived in Priest River a majority of his life.

His wife, Nina, preceded him in death in 1989.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Pleger of Malaga, Wash.; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Robert Pierce Odessa, Wash.

Funeral Mass for for Robert A. Pierce, 72, was Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa. Burial followed at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pierce was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa and the Odessa Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Pierce; four sons, Bill, Gary and Randy Pierce, all of Spokane, and Jack Pierce of Colfax, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or the Odessa Memorial Hospital.
