Wenatchee Wins Mead Meet

With nine finalists and three champions, Wenatchee’s wrestlers won the six-team Mead Tournament of Champions Saturday.

The Panthers of the Big Nine Conference scored 200.5 points to outdistance the host Panthers’ 179. Gonzaga Prep finished third with 154, two points ahead of East Valley.

Coaches named Russ Rufer of Eisenhower the outstanding wrestler after his first-round pin of Wenatchee’s Jason Gutzwiler in the 178-pound final.

Mead had the most champions, with five. G-Prep took three titles and East Valley two.
