Cheney Beats Pullman 60-44 In Frontier Upset

The Frontier League staged its latest upset special Thursday night in Cheney. Rick DeMulling’s 20 points and tough defense on the perimeter let the host Blackhawks (5-10, 3-4) take a 60-44 boys victory over second-place Pullman (9-5, 4-2). Pullman had defeated third-ranked West Valley on Tuesday.

DeMulling added 10 rebounds and three Cheney defenders - Chad Randall, Klint Battien and Tucker Urdahl - limited Pullman’s outside attack to 5 of 18 3-pointers.

Kara Weitman and Anna Getz made two 3-pointers apiece during a 16-0 second-half run as the ninth-ranked Blackhawks (13-2, 7-0) toppled the visiting Greyhounds (3-11, 3-3) for their 12th consecutive victory.

Getz added eight assists and 10 rebounds, and teammate Ginger Ewing had six steals. Pullman’s Molly Fisher had 14 rebounds. Six-foot Cheney post Christine Reagan (11.8 ppg) injured her knee 3 minutes into the game and didn’t return.
