The Idaho State basketball team has fallen to seven scholarship players after freshman guard Tracy Blake, who was suspended indefinitely last Friday, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of battery.

Three California racing classics with purses of $1 million each were joined into a series with a $2 million bonus for the horse that sweeps all three.

The series will be called the MGM Grand Classic Crown after the entertainment company guaranteeing the bonus, and it will open on March 2 with the Santa Anita Handicap, followed by the Hollywood Gold Cup on June 30 and the Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 10.

Didier Theys of Belgium turned a fast lap of 126.61 mph to earn pole position in the 24-hour race at the Daytona International Speedway. The race begins the International Motor Sports Association’s Exxon World Sports Car season.

Former Eastern Washington University point guard Ronn McMahon has been signed by the Chicago Rockers of the Continental Basketball Association.

Southern Oregon State College named Jeff Olson interim football coach for the 1996 and 1997 seasons. SOSC named Jim Nagel football consultant, and announced Nagel will become football coach in 1998.

SOSC plays in the Columbia Football Association.
