Michael Scott Oldtown, Idaho

Memorial service for Michael E. Scott, 46, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mr. Scott died Monday in Newport from an apparent heart attack.

He was born in Spokane, and had lived in the Newport/Priest River area for the past four years.

He served in the Marine Corps for three years in Vietnam. He left the service as a sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and two Good Conduct medals.

He married Nanci Nisbeth in Hawthrone, Nev., in 1977. He worked for Contel phone company in California, and they later moved to Garden Valley, Idaho.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Casey Scott, at home; two daughters, Katie Scott, at home, and Teresa Scott of California; his parents, Harold and Bonnie Scott, and two brothers, Randy and Greg Scott, all of Bishop, Calif.; and one sister, Carolyn Lambert of Bakersfield, Calif.

Polly Rago Spokane

Memorial service for Polly Rago, 40, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Northwest Bible Church of Mead. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Rago, who died Tuesday, was born in Pullman.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Nicholas Rago; one son, John Rago of Moscow, Idaho; one sister, Julie Lynch of Spokane; her stepfather, Frank Kottge of Spokane; her foster parents, Bernard and Joan Olson of Moscow; and one stepbrother, Ralph Kottge of California.

Jeffrey Himes Spokane

Memorial service for Jeffrey Paul Himes, 11, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Jeffrey, who died Monday in a fire, was born in Spokane.

He was a fifth-grader and belonged to a boxing club.

He is survived by his mother, Paula Chain of Spokane; his father, Robert Himes of Spokane; six brothers and sisters; Michelle, Kenny, Brian and Marcus Himes, and Denny Chain and June Conrad; his grandparents, Robert Himes, Veda Himes, Jack and Betty Goehri, and Paul Maxwell; and his great-grandparents, Nora Sumerlin and Hattie Barton.

Harold Haberman Spokane

Visitation for Harold H. Haberman, 81, is scheduled for 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Haberman, who died Sunday, was born in Ashland, Wis.

He had lived in Spokane for 78 years.

He graduated from North Central High School and was a co-owner of Standard Plumbing Co. from 1934 until 1965. He then worked 15 years at Merrill and Peterson as an investment broker before retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Manito Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaRene Haberman; one daughter, Julie Erdmann of Seattle; two sons, James and John Haberman, both of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

Gordon ‘Red’ Walters Spokane

Memorial service for Gordon “Red” Walters, 78, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Born in Miles City, Mont., Mr. Walters died Wednesday.

He moved to Spokane when he was 3 years old, He graduated from North Central High School.

He worked at Ace Concrete Co. for 30 years and then worked at Thompson Tile for 20 years as credit manager. He retired in 1993.

Mr. Walters is survived by his wife of 40 years, Eva Walters; one son, Dennis Lane of San Diego; three daughters, Dana Marlow of Spokane, Vicki Inks of Grandview, Wash., and Christie Plinski of Corvallis, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Mitchell Stanwood, Wash.

Service for Robert Mitchell, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum in Spokane. Burial will follow. Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mitchell, a former Spokane resident, died Tuesday in Stanwood, where he had lived for the past three years.

He was born in Scotland.

As a child, he moved to Manitoba and had lived in St. Cloud, Minn. He married Edith Lease in St. Cloud in 1935.

He moved to Spokane in 1946 and was an inspector for Kaiser Aluminum Corp.

He spent a few years in Phoenix, Ariz., and the Tri-Cities and settled in Anacortes, Wash.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marilyn McAdams of Anacortes and Elaine Sleeman of Maple Valley, Wash.; two sisters, Mabel Volkmer of Palmer, Alaska, and Isabella Hollis of Sun City, Ariz.; one brother, James Mitchell of Wenatchee; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lula Richardson Post Falls

Service for Lula M. Richardson, 87, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Richardson, a former Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Salmon, Idaho, and she came to North Idaho from Spokane in 1959.

She had worked as a teletype operator for Western Union for 27 years.

Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Post Falls Baptist Church, Royal Neighbors, Cedar Creek Club, Cloverleaf Grange and the Grandmothers Club.

She was preceded in death by three husbands.

Survivors include two daughters, Lurene Tefft of Post Falls and Ruby Metcalf of Coeur d’Alene.

Bruce Carnine Spokane

Memorial service for Bruce P. Carnine, 38, was Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Carnine, who died last Friday from respiratory arrest, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Central Valley High School and worked in heavy construction.

He was a member of the Valley Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include one son, Corey Carnine; two daughters, Celeste and Amber Carnine; his father and stepmother, James and Phebe Carnine of Spokane; one brother, Richard Carnine of Spokane; and two sisters, Cindy Draper of Spokane and Susan Lincoln of Suquamish, Wash.

Margaret (Shoemaker) Smith Sandpoint

Service for Margaret F. (Shoemaker) Smith, 85, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Interment will follow at the Pack River Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, a longtime Sandpoint resident, died Monday.

She was born in Sandpoint and later lived in Iowa for several years before returning to Sandpoint in 1936.

She was a former member of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two husbands, Harry and Ivan.

Survivors include a son, James Groves of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Sue Prohl of Nampa, Idaho, and Barbara Woolsey of Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Merrie Stockman of Poulsbo, Wash., and Lillian Wisdom of Boise; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Bonner General Hospital Foundation.

James Guimond Coeur d’Alene

Memorial Mass for James Francis Guimond, 70, will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guimond, a lifelong area resident, died Monday.

He was an educator for the Coeur d’Alene School District for 37 years before retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the National Education Association.

Mr. Guimond was a former member of planning and traffic commissions and taught driver’s education classes for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary; two sons, Brian of Spokane and Paul of San Diego; a daughter, Lola Furber of Maine; and two grandchildren.

Lawrence ‘Bud’ Baughman Spokane

Memorial service for Lawrence C. “Bud” Baughman, 61, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Foothills Chapel. Dedicatory service of the niche will follow at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in West Chester, Pa., Mr. Baughman died Tuesday at home.

He graduated from Springdale (Wash.) High School. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked at Columbia Lighting for over 35 years and was very active in the Electrical Workers Union.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; three daughters, Holly, at home, and Dawna and Debbie; two sons, Dustin Moats of Ketchum, Idaho, and Robert; his mother, Lillian Bolton of Spokane; three sisters, Mary Edwardson of Ukiah, Calif., Myrna Dorsey of Santa Clara, Calif., and Lorna Rastatter of Simi Valley, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren.

Nancy Rutherford Spokane

Visitation for Nancy Dean Decker Rutherford, 61, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rutherford, who died Monday at home, was born in Spokane.

She had worked as an operating room nurse at Deaconess Medical Center and in the Army during the Vietnam War. She had also worked at Tri-County Hospital as a registered nurse.

She was a member of Country Homes Christian Church and had volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Rutherford is survived by her husband of 34 years, Robert Rutherford; two sons, Leonard Rutherford of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Brian Rutherford of Vacaville, Calif.; one daughter, Rebecca Hagelin of Germany; and five grandchildren.

Harvey Marsonette Newman Lake

Memorial service for Harvey A. Marsonette, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Marsonette, who died Monday, was born in Brooks, Minn.

He married Sylvia Fald in Chinook, Mont., in 1939 and they moved to Spokane in the early 1950s.

Mr. Marsonette worked in the logging industry for 20 years and retired in 1974.

He had worked for Boeing in Seattle during World War II.

He was a member of the Carpenters and Laborers unions.

His wife died in 1988.

Mr. Marsonette is survived by two sons, Malvin Marsonette of Spokane and Danny Marsonette of Mead; four daughters, Barbara Jean of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda Anderson of Ravensdale, Wash., Rita Marsonette of Spokane and Diane Cole of Newman Lake; two brothers, LaVern Marsonette of Chinook, Mont., and Roland Mellor of Spokane; two sisters, Bernice Peterson of Plummer, Minn., and Eleanor Christianson of Oaklee, Minn.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helen Foster Greenacres

Graveside service for Helen Opal Foster, 92, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mrs. Foster, who was born in Nebraska, died Wednesday.

She had previously lived in Bremerton and South Dakota before moving to Post Falls in 1972. She later moved to Chewelah, Wash., and settled in Spokane in 1991.

Mrs. Foster had worked in Bremerton in the tool room at the Naval shipyard and also as a baker at Harrison Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1965.

She loved gardening and crocheting and was a member of the Bakers Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Wayne.

Survivors include three daughters, Vivian Greenway of Fairbanks, Alaska, Vera Hines of Post Falls and Maxine Davis of San Diego; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
